Throughout the summer we will be getting an update on what some of the Golden Gopher women's tennis players are up to. This week we caught up with Sophomore Caroline Ryba.

Gopher Sports: What have you been up to so far this summer? Have you seen any of the other players? Any big plans the rest of it?

Caroline Ryba: It's been a pretty laid back summer so far. Right after finals ended, I just relaxed and recuperated after a really fun but tiring year. Lately, I have been at home practicing, conditioning, and spending time with family and friends. I have also spent a lot of time playing tennis with, coaching and mentoring some younger tennis players. I have gotten to see Alex Bergman and incoming freshman, Annie Emme, a few times, since they both live within 15 minutes from me here in Chicago and that has been really nice. In a couple of weeks, Annie and I are going to visit The U for a weekend and stay with Jessika (Mozia) and Paula (Rincon-Otero), at their apartment. We will probably get to see Maja (Vujic), Tereza (Brichacova), and Aria (Lambert) there as well since they are on campus for the summer. I am really looking forward to that. My other plans for the summer include practicing some more and playing some ITA tournaments at other colleges like Purdue University, Western Michigan University, and possibly Indiana University.

GS: Best spot to hang out on campus and why?

CR: The best spot to hang out on campus is probably "The Mall" area between Northrop and Coffman, if it is warm out. It is a really pretty part of campus and you always see people playing games, studying or just laying out on the grass. If it is colder out, Coffman Union has tons of places to eat, talk and study, so it is a good hang out spot too.

GS: Who is the funniest person on the team?

CR: That's really tough... I honestly think everyone on the team is really funny. Julia (Courter) has probably made me laugh the hardest, but Aria and Maja are hilarious on Twitter and in person and Mehvish (Safdar) does and says some funny things too.

GS: Can you talk about how cool it is another Glenbrook South High School Titan in AnneMarie Emme will be joining the team this coming season?

CR: It is awesome that Annie's going to be a Goph! I have some great memories with her from when we both played for Glenbrook South's tennis team and I cannot wait to have more in college. Annie is just a great, funny, kind person and a fantastic teammate. I think everyone is going to love her and she will definitely positively impact our team in every way.

GS: What CD do you own that you are most embarrassed about today?

CR: "In the Zone" by Britney Spears. I actually really liked her when I was a kid.

GS: Who is your favorite superhero?

CR: Batman.

GS: What are you most excited for when the school year starts back up?

CR: Everything. I cannot wait to train, travel and compete with my teammates and coaches again. Also, I plan on taking some interesting classes that will hopefully give me an idea of what I want to do when I am older. Lastly, I am really excited to see my friends from freshman year, and to live in my first apartment with Alex Bergman and Mehvish!
