GopherSports: Why did you choose the University of Minnesota?
Brian Poon: I chose the University of Minnesota because it provides the perfect balance between rigorous academics and successful athletics. The university also has the great teammates and beautiful campus I was looking for.
GopherSports: What are you looking forward to the most with starting your collegiate career as a Golden Gopher?
Poon: I'm most excited about being able to train with so many talented teammates who are all as committed and excited as I am to work hard towards our goals.
GopherSports: Thus far, what has been your best or most proud swimming memory?
Poon: My most proud swimming memory was helping my club team, Phoenix Swimming, place first overall at the 2014 New England Senior Championships because it showed how far our young team has come with the dedication and hard work of my teammates.
GopherSports: What do you like to do for fun outside of the pool?
Poon: Outside of the pool, I like to play other sports like frisbee, basketball, and football. I also like to read and just hang out with friends.
GopherSports: How do you think you will contribute to the Gopher swimming and diving program?
Poon: I think I will be able to contribute by bringing a positive attitude to the team along with the speed to hopefully score points at meets like Big Tens and NCAAs.
I would like to thank everyone who has helped me get to where I am today. My friends, family, and coaches have all supported me and pushed me to achieve my goals. I am beyond excited to be on campus in the fall. Go Gophers!
