Gophersports.com caught up with incoming freshman, Eagan, Minn. native, Molly Fiedler about what she's most looking forward to this coming season both on and off the field.

How did you first start playing soccer?
I started playing organized soccer when I was about 3-years-old because my dad got me into it. As soon as I could walk, my dad had me kicking a soccer ball around.

Did you play any other sports growing up?
Growing up, my main focus was on soccer, but I also played basketball and ran track during middle school.

Why did you choose the University of Minnesota?
At first, I thought the U was too big of a school but the more I looked into it, the more opportunities I saw. I liked the idea that I could make the school as big or as small as I wanted. When I visited, I fell in love with the campus and the atmosphere. It helped that my brother decided to go to the U and was excited about it. I also really liked the coaches.

Have you chosen a major or leaning towards a specific area of study?
I have not officially chosen a major but it's leaning towards psychology or child psychology at the moment.

What do you like to do in your free time when you're not playing soccer?
I love spending time with my family or friends or just being outside.

What are you most looking forward to as a UMN soccer player?
I'm really excited to join the team and be apart of the women's soccer program. It has been my dream since I was a little girl to play Division 1 soccer and now that dream is finally coming true!

Who was your athletic role model growing up?

When I was little, I had a Mia Hamm poster hanging up in my room and from that point on, I wanted to be just like her.

What's your favorite part about playing soccer?
I enjoy everything that comes with soccer. I love being a part of a team and having that bond with your teammates and also having a competitive side.

What type of music most pumps you up for games?
I've never really been big into music and my pre-game ritual doesn't usually consist of music.

Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions?
I am very superstitious when it comes to soccer. I have to put on my socks, shin guards, and cleats all in a specific order. My hair ties and pre wrap are also very lucky to me.

What are you most excited about joining the four other players from around the Twin Cities you played on the Minnesota Thunder with?
I am very excited to continue to play with them as well as continue to build our relationships with each other!

How does it feel to join your brother (UMN baseball player Matt Fiedler) not only at the U but in D-I athletics too?
Ever since I was little, I wanted to be just like my brother. I would follow him around and copy his every move. I would even dress like him. He has always been a very good athlete and I wanted to be just like him in that aspect too. To be able to join him at the U just makes my dream that much more surreal.
