MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota women's soccer team was named No. 18 in the NSCAA Division 1 women's soccer poll on Tuesday afternoon after previously not been ranked.
With the two wins against Big Ten conference foes, Ohio State and Penn State, the Golden Gophers now stand with a record of 7-1-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
Northwestern has the same 7-1-2 record with Minnesota. The Scarlet Knights of Rutgers University are the only team in the Big Ten that has a perfect record of 8-0-0 overall, but the Gophers still stand on top of the conference after their sweep.
The last time the Gophers were on top of the Big Ten was when they won the conference crown in 2008.
Along with the NSCAA rankings, the Maroon and Gold was named one of the five biggest movers in NCAA D1 women's soccer by HEROsports.com along with LSU, Portland, Long Beach State and Dartmouth.
Topdrawersoccer.com also named Minnesota to the Top 25 of the Week at No. 21. Virginia, North Carolina, Florida State, West Virginia and BYU make up the Top 5, respectively.
The Maroon and Gold will return to Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium for a pair of home games this week. On Friday, Sept. 25, the Gophers face the Purdue Boilermakers at 7:00 p.m. On Sunday, the Indiana Hoosiers make a trip to Minnesota for a 1:00 p.m. game.
