Duo Receives Big Ten Weekly Awards

University of Minnesota setter Samantha Seliger-Swenson and libero Dalianliz Rosado have received weekly Big Ten awards, announced today by the conference office. It is the first weekly honor for both Golden Gopher individuals as they helped Minnesota gain wins over Louisville and then No. 18 North Carolina. Rosado was named one of the Co-Big Ten Defensive Players of the Week, while Seliger-Swenson garnered both the setter and rookie of the week honors.
Rosado, a libero for Morovis, Puerto Rico, had 45 digs over the course of the weekend to help the Gophers to back-to-back wins. Rosado added 18 digs in the five-set win over Louisville and established a career-best seven assists. In 57 attempts, the sophomore did not commit a reception error in 57. During Saturday's win over then No. 18 North Carolina, Rosado set a career-high 27 digs in the three-set win. On the weekend, she averaged 5.62 digs per set.
Seliger-Swenson, a freshman from Minnetonka, Minn., ran the Gophers' offense this past weekend, helping Minnesota to back-to-back wins. On Friday, Seliger-Swenson added a career-best 59 assists en route to a five-set win over Louisville. Not only did she help Minnesota to a .296 hitting clip, she also added a double-double with 15 digs. On Saturday, the rookie contributed another 36 assists, a second-straight match high, to lead the Gophers to their second win of the weekend.
The Gophers are set to open the home season when they host the annual Diet Coke Classic, Sept. 11-12 at the Sports Pavilion. Minnesota welcomes UC Irvine, North Dakota State and UCF to the tournament, which is slated to start Friday afternoon.
