Gopher Ties at Olympic Qualifier

The University of Minnesota had three with Golden Gopher ties aide their respective teams to international success over the weekend.

Minnesota alum Tori Dixon (2010-13) helped the United States National Team qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics last weekend at the NORCECA Olympic Qualification Tournament, held in Lincoln, Neb. Dixon and Team USA won over Canada, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic to win the tournament and automatically qualify for Rio.

Dixon was named to the all-tournament team and was named one of two best blockers in the tournament. During the three-day tournament, Dixon had 21 kills and four blocks. In the final match against Dominican Republic, Dixon had nine points when she added eight kills in 12 attempts and a block.

Daly Santana and Dalianliz Rosado played for Puerto Rico as the team went 1-2 in the tournament and earned a bronze medal. With the win over Canada, Puerto Rico secured a spot to play in the intercontinental playoffs, which will take place in Puerto Rico this May. Santana saw action in all three matches for Puerto Rico. In her first appearance with the senior national team, Rosado saw action in the USA match last Friday.
