Williamson Named WCHA Rookie of the Week

MINNEAPOLIS - Gophers freshman center Taylor Williamson has been named the WCHA Rookie of the Week after recording three points on one goal and two assists in Minnesota's WCHA home sweep over Ohio State last weekend. It marks the first WCHA weekly award of Williamson's career.
Williamson scored the game-winning goal in the Gophers' 3-1 win in game one against the Buckeyes and added two assists in the 9-0 win in game two. For the series, Williamson was +3 with four shots on goal and won eight of 10 faceoffs.
In game one, Williamson scored the eventual game-winner, giving Minnesota a 2-0 lead at the 4:36 mark of the second period. The tally marked Williamson's second career goal for the Gophers. She won five of seven faceoffs as well.
Williamson followed up with her first career multi-point game in game two of the series. She had two assists, setting up the Gophers' third and fourth goals of the game. She recorded two shots on goal, went 3-for-6 in the faceoff circle, and was +2 for the game.
Williamson's three-point series was a career-best for the freshman from Edina, Minn. She is currently on a career-best two-game point streak. Williamson ranks fifth among WCHA freshmen with 10 points and eight assists. Both of her goals this season are game-winners, leading WCHA rookies. She ranks second among WCHA rookies in the faceoff circle at .523 (112-102).
Williamson and the Gophers host Minnesota State at Ridder Arena at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
