The University of Minnesota finished the USTA/ITA Central Region Championships at Baseline Tennis Saturday with 22 singles match wins and seven doubles match wins.
Last season the Gophers had 26 total wins (17 singles, 9 doubles) at the Central Region Championships.
"First of all I'd like to thank John Pratt and Mason Hemmer, and their entire Baseline Tennis Staff for running an amazing regional," Head Coach Chuck Merzbacher said. "All I heard was compliments from the other coaches. The region is probably as strong as it is ever been. I feel like our young team did very well, showed our depth and got a glimpse of what we are going to be in the spring. Our schedule is very tough in the spring and tournaments like this are preparing us for that schedule."
The Gophers had Carolina Ryba advance to the singles main draw round of 16 while Ryba teamed up with Cammy Frei to make it to the doubles main draw round of 16.
The Maroon and Gold also had Caitlyn Merzbacher and Mehvish Safdar play their way into the doubles consolation quarterfinals.
