The University of Minnesota soccer team played through heavy rain to earn a 3-0 win over Iowa on Thursday night at the Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. The Gophers record moves to 10-3-1 (4-1-1) on the season. This was Minnesota's fourth shutout of Big Ten play, and eighth of the season.
Co-captains Josee Stiever and Simone Kolander led Minnesota's offense, while goalkeeper Tarah Hobbs notched her 28th career shutout for a new program record.
"We are very proud of the team for how they played in these difficult conditions," head coach Stefanie Golan said. "The team kept our focus and kept driving forward."
Through the first half, both teams were scoreless.
In the 59th minute of the match, Stiever scored off an assist from Kolander to give Minnesota a 1-0 edge.
"It took awhile for us to get on the scoreboard, but we found a way," Golan said. "It was great to see the continued effort."
Stiever went on to score again in the 86th minute of the match. Molly Fiedler was credited the assist.
Less than two minutes later, Kolander found the back of the net off a ball from April Bockin for the final score of 3-0. It was Kolander's 10th goal of the season.
