Leave it to Stiever

Midfielder Josee Stiever leads the Gophers with ten assists on the year, including five in the past six games. Her impact on the field is seen not only in Minnesota's two conference crowns this season, but the program's culture to build each day.
"It's a special season because it's my senior year," Stiever said. "Our senior class wants to make a statement. We've all bought into focusing on each moment."
Stiever's impact on the game isn't new to 2016, she's been a force since her Minnesota debut.
"Josee has been one of our most impactful players all four years," head coach Stefanie Golan said. "She's probably the best player that I've had the privilege of coaching."
During her time in maroon and gold, Stiever has played in 85 games, netted 21 goals, recorded 20 assists and 62 points. Stiever has found that as a midfielder, assists are just as exciting as goals.
"Building the play, getting an assist and creating pportunities mean so much," Stiever said.
Half of Stiever's career assists have come this fall.
"It's pretty amazing to see her having her best year as a senior," Golan said. "The impact that she has on this team is significant. Josee plays well and makes everybody around her better."
With five game-winning goals on the season, Stiever has helped Minnesota reach a record of 16-3-3 this year.
"We've had an incredible season so far," Stiever said. "We've learned about each other and we're ready to come out strong this weekend."
Stiever and the Gophers will open the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship tomorrow with a first round game against NC State. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. CT and tickets are available at mygophersports.com.
