Wilhite Receives Third B1G Laurels of the Season

For the third time this season, Sarah Wilhite has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week, announced today by the league office. Wilhite is the only Big Ten player to receive the award three times this season.

Wilhite, a 6-foot, 1-inch senior outside hitter, led the Gophers with 24 kills and averaged 4.00 kills per set and hit .299 in a pair of wins over Illinois and Northwestern. Accomplishing five aces in two matches, Wilhite also added 21 digs, two assists and two blocks. Against Illinois Saturday, Wilhite had 12 kills in 40 attempts, added 11 digs and two blocks. On Sunday against Northwestern, Wilhite posted her second double-double of the weekend when she established another 12 kill, 10 dig performance, also while she produced four aces. Along with her weekend accomplishments, Wilhite hit the 1,000 career kill mark, now sitting at 1,010 in her four years. As a senior, the Eden Prairie, Minn., native has a team-best 365 kills this year.

The Golden Gophers take on No. 15 Michigan State and No. 17 Michigan, Friday and Sunday. Minnesota hosts the Spartans at 7 p.m. Friday, and the Wolverines, 1 p.m. Sunday. Both matched will be held at the Sports Pavilion and streamed on BTN Plus.
