Gophers in the Pros: Nov. 3

MINNEAPOLIS -- The NWHL and CWH both wrapped up their first full month of the season last weekend. Gigi Marvin and the Boston Pride lead the NWHL, undefeated at 4-0-0, while Sarah Davis and the Calgary Inferno (4-0-0) and the Montreal Canadiens (4-0-0) both have unblemished records to lead the CWHL.
In total, seven University of Minnesota alumni are playing in the NWHL and CWHL this season: Megan Bozek, Jordyn Burns, Amanda Kessel; Amanda Leveille, Gigi Marvin, Milica McMillen, and Anne Schleper are competing in the NWHL while Davis and Kelly Terry are continuing their CWHL careers. The nine Golden Gophers are among 36 WCHA alumni playing in either the NWHL or CWHL this season.
NWHL Update
Boston Pride 5, New York Riveters 1
The Boston Pride (4-0-0) remained undefeated with a 5-1 win over the New York Riveters (0-3-0) to wrap up play in the month of October on Saturday, Oct. 22. Marvin recorded one assist and one blocked shot while finishing the game +3 for the Boston Pride, and McMillen tallied one blocked shot for the New York Riveters.
Connecticut Whale 7, Buffalo Beauts 5
The Connecticut Whale (2-1-0) topped the Buffalo Beauts (1-2-0) by a score of 7-5 after a 4-5 loss to them in their season opener. For Buffalo, Bozek recorded one assist and finished the game +1. Teammates Schleper and Burns each had a blocked shot and Leveille saw one period of action, recording nine saves.
NWHL action resumes Saturday, Nov. 12 with the Connecticut Whale playing on the road at the Boston Pride. Meanwhile, the New York Riveters play a two-game series on the road at the Buffalo Beauts on Saturday, Nov. 12 and Sunday, Nov. 13.
CWHL Update
Terry and the Toronto Furies (3-3-0) wrapped up play in October with a 5-0 win over the Brampton Thunder (1-4-0) after dropping three-straight games. In the Furies' 5-0 win, Terry recorded one assist and finished the game at a +2. The Furies fell 2-1 and 4-1 against the undefeated Montreal Canadiens (4-0-0) and recorded a 2-0 loss to the Thunder as well. Terry is tied for fourth in scoring among the Furies, posting three points (1g-2a) in six games this year.
The Calgary Inferno won 8-0 and 6-3 over the Boston Blades last weekend, but Davis missed both games while preparing for the 2016 Four Nations Cup with Canada's National Women's Team. Davis has one assist in two games played for the Inferno so far this season.
CWHL action continues with four games next weekend, Saturday, Nov. 12 and Sunday, Nov. 13. The two Gophers alumnae face off as Toronto plays a two-game series on the road at Calgary, while Boston plays two games at Montreal.
