MINNEAPOLIS -- Sophomore forward Sarah Potomak has been honored as the WCHA Offensive Player of the Month for the month of October, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association announced Thursday.
Potomak has at least one point in nine of Minnesota's 10 games so far this season. Minnesota is undefeated when Potomak registers at least one point. The Aldergrove, British Columbia, native is on a team-best six-game point streak (8g-5a). Potomak has had five multi-point games to open the season, including two multi-goal games. Potomak has at least one goal in six of 10 games as well.
Potomak leads the WCHA in goals (9), points (18), goals per game (0.90), points per game (1.80), game-winning goals (5), hat tricks (1), and plus/minus (+15). She's tied for second in the league with nine assists and 0.90 assists per game. Her 41 shots on goal and 4.10 shots on goal per game are fifth in the WCHA.
Among all NCAA players, Potomak leads the nation in points (18), game-winning goals (5), hat tricks (1), and plus/minus (+15); her nine goals are tied for the NCAA's best. This month's award is Potomak's third career WCHA monthly award, as she was honored as the league's Rookie of the Month twice during the 2015-16 season.
Potomak looks to continue her six-game point streak when the Gophers host Minnesota State (2-7-1, 0-7-1-0 WCHA) at Ridder Arena this weekend. Puck drop is set for 6:07 p.m. CT Friday and 2:07 p.m. CT Sunday.
