Traffic Advisory: Saturday Football & Hockey
11/3/2016 12:00:00 AM | Football
MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) -- With a large crowd expected at Mariucci Arena on Saturday night for the 8 p.m. faceoff between No. 13 Minnesota and No. 3 North Dakota, fans heading to campus that evening are advised to plan ahead as they will be arriving shortly after the end of the Gophers' 2:30 p.m. football game against Purdue. The close proximity of the start times of these contests and the venues that will host them will create unique traffic and parking conditions for a short time on Saturday evening.
The football game is expected to end at approximately 6 p.m., though this time could change depending on how long the game takes to complete. Normal egress traffic controls for football post-game will be in effect until approximately 7 p.m. This time will be fluid along with the ending time of the football game. These controls alter traffic flow on several campus surface streets, where traffic levels are heavier than usual as football fans depart from campus.
Most notable to Mariucci Arena traffic, until these controls are lifted, they will limit entry into Lot 33, Lot 37 and the Maroon Lot. Fans arriving to park in these lots prior to the removal of traffic controls will only be able to reach them by traveling north on 15th Ave. SE and then turning right to head east on 5th St. SE. Again, once the traffic controls are lifted, all routes to these lots will be available.
Though it is unlikely, if any of these parking facilities are at physical capacity when a pass-holder arrives that evening, they will be relocated to the 4th St. Ramp or the nearest parking lot with available space for that night.
For those seeking single-game, cash parking for Saturday night, potential options include: Oak St. Ramp, Washington Ave. Ramp, and University Ave. Ramp. Provided there are open spaces in these facilities, they will be available for men's hockey traffic beginning at 5 p.m.

Fans may also avoid or minimize the impact of these unique circumstances by utilizing public transportation (bus or light rail), carpooling with other ticketholders, walking or biking to that night's game.
