Minnesota senior defensive back Jalen Myrick has accepted an invitation to play in the East-West Shrine Game. The 92nd staging of the game will take place at 2 p.m. on Jan. 21, 2017, at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. The game will be broadcast on the NFL Network.

Myrick is in line to be selected in the 2017 NFL Draft. Minnesota has a strong recent history in having defensive backs drafted. Eric Murray was taken by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016, while Cedric Thompson was selected by the Miami Dolphins in 2015. Brock Vereen was picked by the Chicago Bears in 2014.
The most recent Gophers to play in the East-West Shrine Game were Briean Boddy-Calhoun and De'Vondre Campbell, who played in the 2016 game. Boddy-Calhoun was not selected in the 2016 NFL Draft, but is in his first season with the Cleveland Browns. The cornerback has started five of the 10 games he has played in and has made 31 tackles, recorded one sack and has two interceptions.
Campbell is a rookie for the Atlanta Falcons and has started six of the seven games he has played in. The linebacker has made 37 tackles and also has one interception and forced one fumble.
