In honor of Black History Month, Gopher Athletics is celebrating those who made us great. Throughout February, GopherSports.com will share short interviews with African-American alumni from almost every Gopher program. In these interviews, former student-athletes reflect on their time at the U of M, provide advice to current Gophers and share what Black History Month means to them personally.

What is it you honestly miss most about the University?
Camaraderie with the students, athletes and administration. I just loved being on campus, being around the U of Minnesota and all the students, and I loved the camaraderie between us and the faculty.
If you could give the current student-athletes any piece of advice, what would it be?
Enjoy every day. Do not get down with a loss. Just compete to your best ability and enjoy every moment, because when you are done you'll really miss it.
Please share your favorite university or athletic event you've attended since you graduated and what made it so special to you?
To be kind of selfish, I enjoyed when the U of Minnesota highlighted me at the Ohio State men's basketball game for Captains' Day (honorary captains). It was really special for me to come back on campus and to be honored like that at halftime.
What are you grateful for?
I am grateful for my family, my parents, my wife and my daughter. I think I have the best family in the world they support me and love me unconditionally.
What does Black History Month mean to you?
Very symbolic. I wish it were longer. Every day is a Black History day for me because obviously I am African-American so I cherish the fact that we as a nation honor my African-American members who basically highlighted and paved the way for me to be able to attend the University of Minnesota.
