Cameranesi Receives Second WCHA Monthly Honor

MINNEAPOLIS - Dani Cameranesi has been selected as WCHA Offensive Player of the Month for her play during the month of January. The award marks Cameranesi's second monthly award of the season after earning offensive player of the month honors in December 2015 as well.

Cameranesi, a junior forward, was tied for the WCHA lead with 12 points and 1.50 points per game during the month of January. She recorded six goals and six assists. Cameranesi had one goal in six of eight games played during the month. She had four multi-point games, including one four-point game.

The Plymouth, Minn., native has been a key member of the Gophers' nation-leading power-play unit all year, including the month of January. Minnesota currently leads the nation at 48.6 percent (36/74) on the power play, including a WCHA-best 55.6 power-play percentage (10/18) during January. Cameranesi's four power-play goals led the NCAA during January.

Cameranesi also ranked second in the WCHA with six goals and 0.75 goals per game during January. She was tied for third in the league with a +10 rating and 35 shots on goal during the month. Cameranesi was tied for sixth among WCHA players with 0.75 assists per game and tied for seventh with six total assists.

In Minnesota's sweep over Ohio State, Cameranesi recorded three points (2g-1a). She sealed the Gophers' 3-1 win with an empty net goal in the final 90 seconds (Jan. 9) before adding a goal and an assist in Minnesota's 9-0 win (Jan. 10). Cameranesi assisted the game-winner and scored the Gophers' ninth goal on the power play.

The next weekend, Cameranesi recorded two points in the Gophers' 3-2 win over Minnesota State (Jan. 16). She set up the Gophers' first goal, a 5-on-3 power-play tally by Kelly Pannek, and then scored a goal of her own on the 5-on-4 power play just 25 seconds later to give Minnesota a 2-0 lead midway through the second period.

Cameranesi posted a five-point series in Minnesota's road sweep at St. Cloud State (Jan. 22-23). She logged four points (1g-3a) in the team's 7-0 win in game one, assisting the Gophers' first, second, and fourth goals before scoring the fifth goal of the game. She ended the series with a power-play goal in Minnesota's 4-2 win, sealing the victory with the Gophers' fourth goal of the game.

In Minnesota's road sweep at Bemidji State (Jan. 29-30), Cameranesi contributed to both goals in Minnesota's 2-1 overtime win at Bemidji State (Jan. 30). She scored her NCAA-best 12th power-play goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1 with 6:39 remaining in regulation before setting up Lee Stecklein's game-winning goal in overtime. Cameranesi's two-point effort marked her 16th multi-point game of the year.

For the season, Cameranesi leads the WCHA with 53 points, 25 goals, 0.93 goals per game, 12 power-play goals, 16 power-play points, and a .255 scoring percentage. Her 28 assists are second only to linemate Sarah Potomak. Among all NCAA players, Cameranesi is third with 53 goals, 25 goals and 0.93 goals per game; fourth with 1.96 points per game; and tied for fifth with 28 assists. Her 12 power-play goals and her .255 scoring percentage lead the nation as well.

Cameranesi's 12th power-play goal of the season moved her into a tie for fourth in Minnesota single-season individual records. She's also on the verge of breaking into Minnesota's all-time top 10 career scorers with 154 career points (67g-87a).
