MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota women's hockey freshman forward Sarah Potomak has been named the USCHO Rookie of the Year for the 2015-16 season, USCHO.com announced.
The Aldergrove, British Columbia native was previously honored as the 2016 National Rookie of the Year and WCHA Rookie of the Year, along with being named to the All-WCHA Third Team and WCHA All-Rookie Team.
Throughout the season, Potomak earned five WCHA Rookie of the Week awards and two WCHA Rookie of the Month honors.
Potomak posted impressive numbers during her freshman year, tallying 54 points (15g-39a) in 38 games for a 1.42 points per game average -- the best among NCAA rookies this season. Potomak was a team-best plus-55 in plus/minus for the season as well.
During the Frozen Four, Potomak scored the overtime game-winner in Minnesota's 3-2 semifinal thriller against Wisconsin, and she also scored the first goal of the national championship game against Boston College. In the national championship game, she also assisted on Amanda Kessel's game-winning goal to lead Minnesota to the program's seventh national title. Potomak was named the Frozen Four's Most Outstanding Player along with earning a place on the all-tournament team with three points in two games.
