From Rival Films...
In 2014 we produced a short film called "The Gold Standard" highlighting how the Gophers' culture created an environment of success based on self-sacrifice.
Two years later, after the Gophers had won 3 of the past 4 national championships, revisiting the ongoing legacy being created by head coach Brad Frost and his coaching staff seemed like a fun idea. Together with Frost and hockey communications director Mandy Hansen, four student-athletes were selected for this project.
With Lee Stecklein and Hannah Brandt as team leaders and keepers of the flame, the Gophers are primed for another run at the national title. As always, the incoming freshman class is stacked. Led by 2015 Ms. Minnesota Hockey Taylor Williamson and top Canadian recruit Sarah Potomak, the pressure to keep the legacy intact can be daunting. These four represent the past, present and future of Gophers women's hockey.
Through this multi-media experience, we get a look at the leaders of today and the future through new images, audio interviews and a look back at the short film.
The images were photographed with a combination of vintage Leica lenses from the 1960s as well as modern Canon L glass using a Canon 1DX body. All images were shot with available light. No strobes or flashes. Final image making was done with a custom digital triple-process.
This project was produced on location at the University of Minnesota in January 2016.
Relive "The Gold Standard" produced by Rival Films during the 2013-14 season.
