Gophers to Host Princeton in NCAA Quarterfinal

MINNEAPOLIS -- Defending national champion Minnesota will host Princeton in the quarterfinal round of the 2016 National Collegiate Women's Ice Hockey Championship next weekend. The Gophers received an at-large berth after finishing as WCHA tournament runners-up.
"We're looking forward to playing Princeton and hosting another NCAA tournament game," Minnesota head coach Brad Frost said. "It'll be a great match-up, and we're excited to have one more opportunity to play in front of our home crowd this season."
The Gophers and Tigers face off at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 12 at Ridder Arena. Tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. CT on Monday, March 7, on mygophersports.com or by phone at 612-624-8080 or 1-800-U-Gopher. Reserved chairback seats are $10, and general admission bench seating is priced at $5. Group tickets (10+) are available for $4 as well.
The Gophers secured one of four at-large berths to the national tournament, joining Clarkson, Princeton, and Northeastern to make up the at-large selections. Postseason conference tournament winners No. 1 seed Boston College (Hockey East), No. 2 seed Wisconsin (WCHA), No. 4 seed Quinnipiac (ECAC Hockey), and Mercyhurst (College Hockey America) all secured automatic berths and round out the tournament field.
NCAA Quarterfinal Match-Ups
No. 1 seed Boston College (38-0-0) hosts Northeastern (28-8-1).
No. 4 seed Quinnipiac (30-2-5) hosts Clarkson (29-4-5).
No. 2 seed Wisconsin (34-3-1) hosts Mercyhurst (19-10-5).
No. 3 seed Minnesota (32-4-1) hosts Princeton (22-8-2).
The quarterfinal winners advance to the 2016 NCAA Women's Frozen Four at the Whittemore Center Arena in Durham, N.H., March 18-20.
