National Champions Day Proclaimed by Gov. Dayton

SAINT PAUL, Minn. -- Governor Mark Dayton proclaimed April 18, 2016 as Gopher Women's Hockey National Champions Day when the back-to-back national champion Gophers visited the governor's mansion for a reception Monday afternoon.
Governor Dayton and several local officials visited with the Gophers at the Minnesota Governor's Residence, and Governor Dayton congratulated team on its 2016 NCAA national championship win. He read the following proclamation to honor the team:
WHEREAS: The NCAA Division I Women's Hockey 2016 Frozen Four championship game matched the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers against the Boston College Eagles at the Whittemore Center Arena in Durham, New Hampshire; and
WHEREAS: The University of Minnesota defeated Boston College 3-1; and
WHEREAS: Forward Sarah Potomak earned the title of Most Outstanding Player of the 2016 Frozen Four, with three points in the tournament; and goaltender Amanda Leveille, defenseman Lee Stecklein, forward Amanda Kessel, and forward Sarah Potomak were named to the 2016 NCAA All-Tournament Team; and
WHEREAS: The University of Minnesota Women's Hockey Team has the distinction of being the 2016 NCAA Division I Champions; and
WHEREAS: The University of Minnesota Women's Hockey Team has the added distinction of appearing in five consecutive national championship games; and
WHEREAS: Led by Coach Brad Frost, the Gopher Women demonstrated extraordinary determination, skill, and perseverance on their way to the University's seventh National Championship in Women's Hockey and its fourth national victory in the last five seasons; and
WHEREAS: The University of Minnesota Women's Hockey Team serves as a source of great pride for all people in the State of Minnesota.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, MARK DAYTON, Governor of Minnesota, do hereby proclaim April 18, 2016 as: GOPHER WOMEN'S HOCKEY NATIONAL CHAMPIONS DAY in Minnesota, the State of Hockey.
