Gopher R.E.P.S.: Financial Planning

Members of the University of Minnesota football team were at TCF Bank Stadium last week prepping for their future.
However, on this evening, there were no pads, footballs or scores. In fact, the team was not even on the field. Instead, they were in the indoor club room and then spread out into smaller meeting spaces, as they were taking part in another Gopher Athletics' Relationships Empowering Professionalism and Success program, which is also known as R.E.P.S.
On this day, the topic was financial wellness and how best to prepare for their future whether football is involved or not. The team spread out among large circular tables in the spacious indoor club room. There were six to seven players at a table and they shared them with a member of Gopher R.E.P.S. (learn more about R.E.P.S here) and a financial adviser.
Senior Damarius Travis served as the master of the program and addressed the team, while former Gopher All-American and local businessman Bob Stein served as a guest speaker.
After the speeches and dinner, members of the team and their table guests then separated into small breakout sessions and discussed financial planning. Part of those conversations focused on budgeting, saving suggestions, opportunities to establish credit, debit cards versus credit cards and compound interest.
