Director's Cup Standings

The University of Minnesota is ranked fourth in the Learfield Director's Cup Division I Final Winter Standings with 718.25 total points, which were released earlier this week. Stanford (1,102.50 points) is first, while Big Ten foes Ohio State (868.00) and Michigan (782.50) are second and third, respectively. Penn State (667.50) checks in at fifth.

The Gophers earned 429.25 points during the winter after earning 289.00 points in the fall. Minnesota earned 100 points for women's hockey winning a national championship. The Gophers, who beat Boston College 3-1 for a national title, have now won four of the last five NCAA titles.

Minnesota also garnered 68.25 points from women's gymnastics and 64 points from men's gymnastics. The women's swimming team earned 58.5 points, while men's swimming collected 54 points.

The wrestling squad added an additional 57 points to Minnesota's total and the Gophers rounded out the winter with 27.5 points from the men's indoor track and field team.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports -- 10 women's and 10 men's.

The first Division I spring standings will be released June 2.
