MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) - Gophers senior thrower Sean Donnelly has been tabbed Big Ten Co-Field Athlete of the Week after picking up his fifth-straight hammer throw victory this weekend behind one of the NCAA's top throws of the year.

A native of Willoughby, Ohio, Donnelly won the Virginia Challenge with a toss of 73.31 meters (240-06 ft.) - a mark that ranks second in the nation behind Donnelly's own season-opening performance and University of Minnesota record 74.35 meters (243-11 ft.). Donnelly currently has the top two throws in the NCAA this year and three of the top four performances. He also boasts the top four performances in University of Minnesota history.

A four-time NCAA Division III national champion and an eight-time Division III All-American at Mount Union, Donnelly currently ranks second among All-Americans in the hammer throw and 15th in the world this year.

This week's Big Ten laurel marks the third of Donnelly's career with the Maroon & Gold.

The Gophers have another busy week in front of them -- competing at the Drake Relays, Kansas' Rock Chalk Classic, Stanford's Payton Jordan Invitational, Macalester's Bolstorff Twilight and the St. Mary's Open.
