Banham Makes WNBA Debut

In scoring 13 points for the Connecticut Sun on Saturday night, Rachel Banham became the fourth University of Minnesota women's basketball program alumna to play in the WNBA. Four former Golden Gophers opened the season for four different teams.

Banham scored 13 points in 15 minutes in her debut against the Chicago Sky. She made a trio of 3-pointers and tallied two rebounds and a steal.

Amanda Zahui B. was traded from the Dallas Wings to the New York Liberty in the week leading up to opening night. She notched a rebound and a steal in her first game with a new squad.

Lindsay Whalen scored 14 points on 6-for-7 shooting as the defending champion Minnesota Lynx opened the season with a win against the Phoenix Mercury. Whalen had three assists and four rebounds. Newly returned Lynx Janel McCarville had three rebounds and a steal in her first game back with her team.
