Former Gopher Janel McCarville has returned to the Minnesota Lynx after taking the 2015 WNBA off. McCarville, who concluded her Gophers career in 2005, was part of the Lynx's 2013 league championship team. There are now four University of Minnesota women's basketball alumnae in the league.

McCarville got into the preseason game the day after the Lynx announced her signing. She scored three points, grabbed four rebounds and blocked a shot. McCarville's fellow 2004 Final Four team member Lindsay Whalen had two points, two assists and a steal in the team's final preseason tuneup against the Washington Mystics.

Another pair of Gophers teammates took the court together as Rachel Banham's Connecticut Sun traveled to face Amanda Zahui B.'s Dallas Wings. Rookie Banham dished out a team-high seven assists and scored six points on two 3-pointers. Zahui B. tallied five points and two rebounds.

The four Gophers will start the regular season this Saturday, May 14. Zahui B.'s 5 p.m. tilt at the Indiana Fever will open the WNBA season. The Lynx host the Phoenix Mercury at 6:30, and Banham will make her pro debut at 7 p.m. at the Chicago Sky. Gophers received notice in this WNBA season preview.
