MINNEAPOLIS - Gophers Lindsay Agnew and Sarah Potomak have been invited to attend Canada's National Women's Development Team selection camp from Aug. 5-14 in Calgary, Alberta, Hockey Canada announced Wednesday.
Agnew and Potomak are among 24 forwards set to attend the camp, which includes 42 players total. The players will be split into two teams, Red and White, and participate in several practices and intrasquad games, as well as off-ice dryland training, fitness testing, and classroom sessions.
Hockey Canada announced yesterday that University of Minnesota women's hockey assistant coach Nadine Muzerall has been named an assistant coach for the camp as well; Muzerall will serve as a member of the coaching staff with head coach Noémie Marin (Acton Vale, Que./John Abbott College, CEGEP), fellow assistant coach Amanda Benoit-Wark (Welland, Ont./Ridley College, CAHS), and goaltending coach Max Joyal (Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce, Que./Limoilou, CEGEP).
Canada's National Women's Development Team selection camp will also include Sweden's national women's team, and a select team of Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) players who will be aiming to represent Canada at the 2017 Winter Universiade in Almaty, Kazakhstan, in January.
Of the 42 players invited to selection camp and the 22 members of the select CIS team, 23 players will be selected to play for Canada's National Women's Development Team in a three-game series against the United States, Aug. 17-20 in Calgary.
Following the series, Hockey Canada scouts, along with the team's coaching staff, will continue to evaluate players with their club teams during the 2016-17 season, in preparation for selecting the Canadian team that will compete at the 2017 Nations Cup in Germany next January, as well as for possible invites to camps and events with Canada's National Women's Team.
The camp is part of the National Teams' Summer Showcase and corresponds with Canada's National Women's Under-18 Team selection camp. Both camps will be on the ice at the Markin MacPhail Centre at WinSport's Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Alberta.
