Wright Places 11th at World Juniors

BYDGOSZCZ, Poland ââ'¬" Shanique Wright wrapped up her 2016 track & field season with an 11th-place finish in triple jump at the IAAF World U20 Championships Saturday. The rising sophomore Gopher represented her native Jamaica at the world junior championships after an All-American season with the Maroon & Gold.
Wright finished 11th in the triple jump final with a leap of 12.91m (42-04.25). The Mandeville, Jamaica, native fouled her first attempt and recorded a mark of 12.69m (41-07.75) on her second jump. She improved to 12.91m on her third and final attempt. Wright advanced to Saturday's final after also placing 11th in the qualifying round (12.74m, 41-09.75) held on Friday.
Wright earned her place on Jamaica's world junior championship team after finishing as triple jump runner-up at the 2016 JAAA National Junior Championships with a jump of 12.83m (42-01.25). She finished her rookie collegiate season by placing 12th in triple jump at the NCAA Championships (12.99m, 42-07.50) and set a career-best mark of 13.03m (42-09.00) at the NCAA West Prelim, a mark that ranks third among all-time Gopher triple jumpers.
With the conclusion of the IAAF World U20 Championships, the Gophers' 2016 track & field season is complete. Jess Lehman was selected to represent the U.S. in the heptathlon at the upcoming Thorpe Cup, but she has opted not to compete.
