Being a highly touted recruit never stopped Carter Coughlin from remembering what was most important to him.

"I will always be a family man," Coughlin said. "My family is my biggest supporters. My siblings went to every single one of my football games this year which is unbelievable. It has been just as fun for them as it has been for me."

Coughlin is the oldest of five in his family. He has a brother who is a year younger, a sister who is two years younger and an adopted sister and brother from Haiti.

"It has put me in a great positon to be able to impact them as they grow up," Coughlin said.

Being the oldest in the family has made the Eden Prairie, Minn. native a natural leader. He helped lead his high school team to two state championships and was a key part of bringing together the 2016 recruiting class. After players started to verbally commit Coughlin invited a large group to his cabin last summer. Coughlin said it was such a huge hit that he invited the whole class over again this summer.

"I love this team more than any team I have been a part of," Coughlin said. "My class is really close already. There are not any clicks. Overall around this whole team is just a bunch of good guys."

That team chemistry will be key as the Gophers start camp in just over a week. Coughlin grew up a Gopher fan dreaming of running out of the tunnel. His father, Robert, played football for the Gophers from 1986-90 and was a two-year letterwinner. His mother, Jennie (Moe), played tennis for Minnesota from 1989-92 and was a three-time all-conference selection and two-time team MVP.

"Each year my family gets season tickets," Coughlin said. "I think that will be really special for me to see them at the games."
