On his official visit Kobe McCrary had Gopher fans doing double takes while walking down the street.

"I have had a lot of people tell me I look like David Cobb," McCrary said. "I had like five people tell me that when I was on my visit. Every time I am walking down the street I have somebody stop me, 'hey you look like David Cobb.'"

McCrary laughs about it and hopes he can get fans excited about more than just his looks.

"To say I look like him is one thing but I want to play like him. If somebody said my game was similar to David Cobb that would be an honor," McCrary said.

While at Butler Community College McCrary helped lead the Grizzlies to a 9-2 record and a No. 5 ranking as a sophomore. He rushed 225 times for 1,190 yards and led the nation with 22 touchdowns. He has been described as a big downhill back.

"I like to run through people," McCrary said. "I feel like if I am physical from the start of the game to the finish, nobody will want to tackle me in the fourth quarter."

While the numbers were impressive they were not the highlight of McCrary's football career so far. His teammates at Butler looked at him as a leader and voted him a team captain. That is his favorite football accomplishment so far.

"It was a big honor because all the players saw I was doing my job so they put their trust in me," McCrary said.

His hardworking and down to earth qualities have helped him fit in right away here at Minnesota. McCrary said he connected with head coach Tracy Claeys and running backs coach Pat Poore right away on his visit and was welcomed with open arms by his new teammates.

"We feel like we have known each other for years," McCrary said. "As soon as I came on my visit I just felt like this place was going to give me my best chance to succeed on and off the field."
