The linebacker corp for the Gophers is expected to be a strength this season led by senior Jack Lynn.
Lynn reflected on his growth over the years ( Lake County Sun-News) and is ready to be leader ( Pioneer Press).
The Lake Zurich, Ill. native has not missed a game the past two seasons and has notched 17 starts. He is coming off an All Big-Ten Honorable Mention season in which he recorded 76 tackles (fourth on team) and led the Gophers with 11.0 tackles-for-loss. He also added 1.5 sacks for a loss of 11 yards, broke up a pair of passes, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.
Playing both defense as well special teams last year, Lynn never shied away during big games. Two of his best performances came against Ohio State and Michigan. He notched seven tackles, including .5 tackles-for-loss, and added a team-high two pass breakups against Michigan. He tallied seven tackles, including a career-high 2.5 tackles-for-loss, and forced a fumble at Ohio State.
The game has slowed down for Lynn each year as he becomes a better student of the game. He said he tries to watch an hour or so of film each night before bed. While he has primarily played outside linebacker throughout his career that knowledge of the game gives the Gophers the flexibility to move him to the middle if needed.
In his career Lynn has 138 tackles with 19 for a loss. He has added 2.5 sacks, forced four fumbles and recovered two.
