Training never ends for the University of Minnesota men's cross country program, and this week is no different for the Gophers.

To kick off the 2016 campaign, the Maroon & Gold are off to Nevis, Minn., for the team's annual preseason training camp in Northern Minnesota.

Throughout camp, GopherSports.com will have regular reports coming directly from members of the team. Today's report comes from redshirt freshman Shane Streich.

Gophers Preseason Camp Blog: Day One

"The team woke up to a fog covered Lake Bell Taine after our first night at camp. After a light breakfast and the all-important morning coffee, the Gophers hopped into the team vans and headed out for our first workout of the year. The hilly Q-Loop was on the agenda for the Gopher Men today. Overall, the morning run went well for us.

The rest of the day consisted of selecting teams for the Nevis Cup and beginning the competition with a competitive game of football. The Maroon team, captained by the one and only Eric Colvin, captured the first win of the competition, besting the Charlie Lawrence's Grey team 42-28.

After the game, free time ensued, consisting of games of volleyball and badminton, before our second practice of the day. Most of the guys spent practice time in the water aqua jogging while some of the team went out for light runs, all followed by core work and hurdle mobility.

We ended our first full day of camp with another amazing meal prepared by Coach Plaz's sister, Bunch, and playing games and relaxing."
