8/4/2016 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
Lindsay Whalen won a gold medal in 2012, and looks to add another to her collection in Rio. The 2004 University of Minnesota graduate is representing the United States at the Olympics for the second time. Olympic women's basketball starts this Sunday and runs for two weeks.
In 2012, Team USA went undefeated in Beijing. Whalen came off the bench in all eight games, averaging 8.0 points per game and shooting 53.3 percent from the field.
The Americans have won five straight gold medals, and will again be favored, with nine returning gold medalists on the roster. Whalen's Lynx teammates Seimone Augustus, Sylvia Fowles and Maya Moore will again join Whalen at the Games.
Whalen is one of seven Gophers competing in Rio this summer and among the dozens of Gopher Olympians to compete over the Games' history. Please help support the next Gopher Olympian by giving to our Olympic sports programs. Click here for more information or to give today.
