Gophers Earn Three B1G Awards

For the second-straight week, University of Minnesota Volleyball is well represented in the Big Ten Conference awards, announced today by the league office. Hannah Tapp was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week, Samantha Seliger-Swenson was named Setter of the Week, while Alexis Hart was named Freshman of the Week. It's the first honor for Tapp this season and the second-straight awards for Seliger-Swenson and Hart.

Tapp was named to the ACC/Big Ten All-Tournament team after hitting .319 on the weekend. The Right Side/Middle Blocker had five kills in 14 swings and added seven blocks in the three set win over Louisville. Tapp helped Minnesota to seven of the team's 15 blocks in the three set win. She followed that performance when she hit a .417 efficiency against No. 11 North Carolina and provided seven blocks of the team's 14.5. In the fourth and deciding set, Tapp had five kills in six attempts along to hit .667, and had 5.5 of her 18.5 total points.

Seliger-Swenson helped the Gophers to a .382 hitting clip over Louisville and No. 11 North Carolina last weekend. Minnesota had 99 kills during seven sets to average 14.14 kills per set. Individually, Seliger-Swenson had 88 assists to average 12.57 per set. She also had two aces, 16 digs and eight blocks. Against Louisville, Seliger-Swenson had a double-double when she had 35 assists, 10 digs and added two aces and five blocks. Against the ranked Tar Heels, Seliger-Swenson had 53 assists, six digs and three blocks as the team hit .333.

Alexis Hart added another stellar weekend to her early Gopher career as she hit .403 and averaged 4.29 kills per set. Against Louisville, Hart held a .522 efficiency when she led all attackers with 13 kills, committed just one error in 23 attempts. Against No. 11 North Carolina, Hart led the Gophers with 17 kills, committed four errors in 39 swings for a .333 hitting clip. In the fourth and deciding set, Hart hit .400 when she added four kills in 10 attempts. For her work, she was named to the ACC/Big Ten Challenge All-Tournament Team.
