Gophers Win DCC Tourney

The No. 3 University of Minnesota volleyball team swept Green Bay on Saturday night 25-21, 25-13, 25-21 to end the Diet Coke Classic and improve to 8-1 on the season. Samantha Seliger-Swenson was named tournament MVP, with Alexis Hart and Sarah Wilhite being named to the all-tournament team.
As a team, the Gophers hit .295 with 43 kills in 95 attempts, put up 10 blocks and established 41 digs. Wilhite led the team with 16 kills, with Hart and Taylor Morgan following with 10 kills. Lohman hit for .500, and put up four blocks, while Paige Tapp had five blocks. Dalianliz Rosado had 15 digs, and Seliger-Swenson had 36 assists.
Minnesota will remain at home next Friday to take on Maryland at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now!
Set Breakdown:
Set 1: Minnesota hit .219 to Green Bay's .143 to take the first set 25-21. Seliger-Swenson started off the match with an ace. Minnesota took an early 6-3 lead on a 4-0 run. Green Bay shrunk the lead on a 3-0 run and tied the match up at 10. A Lohman/Hart block forced a Phoenix timeout at 15-11. After a 3-0 run on Rosado's service rotation, Green Bay called a timeout at 21-16. Rosado would respond with an ace. A Wilhite kill brought the Gophers to set point, and a Hart kill ended the set.
Set 2: The Gophers hit .500 to Green Bay's .097 to win the second set 25-13. Minnesota had 15 kills with only two errors. The set started off with both teams remaining tied until a Wilhite kill propelled the Gophers to a 10-7 lead, causing a Green Bay timeout. A P Tapp kill started a 4-0 run, forcing another Phoenix timeout at 15-8. A Morgan/Wilhite block put Minnesota at set point, and a Green Bay service error ended the set.
Set 3: Minnesota hit .216 to Green Bay's .171 to take the set and match, 25-21. The Phoenix started out the third set on a 3-0 run and held the lead until a Green Bay error tied up the match at 10. Minnesota took over its first lead of the set at 13-12, and a P Tapp ace caused Green Bay to take a timeout at 14-12. Another Gopher ace by Lohman forced a Phoenix timeout at 17-13. Green Bay would rally back to shorten Minnesota's lead 23-21, but back-to-back kills by Morgan ended the set and match.
