Hobbs, Kolander Earn Big Ten Honors

University of Minnesota women's soccer received two Big Ten Conference weekly awards, announced today by the league office. Tarah Hobbs was named Defensive Player of the Week, while Simone Kolander was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week. It's the fourth career honor for Hobbs, and third for Kolander.

Hobbs notched ten saves and a shutout on the opening weekend of Big Ten play. In Friday night's match against defending national champions Penn State, Hobbs allowed just one goal and recorded five saves in the 110-minutes of play. She went on to shutout Ohio State on Sunday afternoon with another five saves.

Kolander scored two goals over the weekend, including Minnesota's lone goal in the 1-1 draw against Penn State. Her goal against Ohio State came off an assist from Julianna Gernes. Kolander currently leads the conference in goals (9), goals per game (.90), points (21) and points per game (2.10).
