Wilhite Garners B1G Laurels

The University of Minnesota's Sarah Wilhite (Eden Prairie, Minn.) was named Big Ten Player of the Week after her stellar performance in the opening week of Big Ten play. It's the second honor for Wilhite this season and the Gophers' eighth award this year.

Wilhite, a six-rotation outside hitter, gathered 30 kills in seven sets and averaged 4.30 kills per set in the opening of the Big Ten season. She committed just seven errors in 74 attempts and hit .311 on the weekend. Wilhite also had four aces, 19 digs and established 35 points. Last Friday against Maryland, Wilhite had a match-best 15 kills in 36 swings and two aces. Last Saturday, she followed with a double-double against No. 17 Ohio State when she had 15 kills, 11 digs and hit .316 against the Buckeyes. She also added two aces, two blocks and her 11 digs tied a team best.

Minnesota travels to Indiana (Sept. 30) and Purdue (Oct. 2) this weekend. Friday's match against the Hoosiers will be at 6 p.m. CT and on BTN Plus, while Sunday's contest against Purdue is set for 12:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
