Border Battle Set for Saturday

No. 8 Minnesota returns to Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium this weekend to face Wisconsin. The border battle match is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 1 at 5:30 p.m.
SENIOR DAY
Before kickoff, the Gophers will recognize the program's six seniors: Rashida Beal, Mara Dougherty, Tarah Hobbs, Simone Kolander, Ashley Pafko and Josee Stiever. Gopher Soccer alumni will also be recognized on field, and students that attend the game will also recieve Minnesota soccer socks, while supplies last.
SCOUTING THE BADGERS
Wisconsin enters the weekend with a 4-4-4 (1-2-1) record. Rose Lavelle leads the team with seven points (two goal, three assists), while Micaela Powers and Emily Borgmann each have three goals. The Badgers lead the all-time series rivalry 14-12-1. Last season, the Badgers earned a 1-0 home win against Minnesota.
IN THE RANKS
Minnesota is currently ranked eighth among Division I programs. The ranking marks the fifth-straight week for Minnesota in the top ten, and is the highest season and program ranking. Rankings are determined by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
LAST TIME OUT
The Gophers are coming off a weekend sweep on the road. Minnesota recorded a 3-0 shutout against Indiana, and went 2-0 at Purdue. Sophomore April Bockin led the Gophers with two goals over the weekend.
GOLDEN NOTES
- Minnesota currently leads the Big Ten in shots (213), points (80), goals (28), goals per game (2.33) and assists (24).
- Kolander currently leads the Big Ten in goals (9), goals per game (.75), points (22) and points per game (1.83).
- Three Gophers have five goals or more so far this season: Kolander 9, Bockin 7, Stiever 5.
- Hobbs was named the B1G Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. She is the first soccer player to earn consecutive individual honors since 2014.
- Stiever was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week.
- Seniors Beal, Hobbs, Kolander and Stiever will graduate early this December in hopes of playing professional soccer.
