Gophers Begin Spring Season

Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Women's Tennis Team will kick off the 2017 spring season as Baseline Tennis Center hosts the Upper Midwest Intercollegiate on Sunday and Monday.

The Gophers will host student-athletes from Augustana, Iowa State and South Dakota in a tournament format. Both days will begin at 9:00 a.m.

Four Minnesota student-athletes will be competing in the tournament. The Maroon and Gold competed in four tournaments over the fall hosting two of them.

The Gophers posted a 60-60 singles match record and were 46-31 in doubles during the fall. Freshman Cammy Frei and sophomore Camila Vargas Gomez led the team with nine singles victories while Frei teamed up with Caroline Ryba for nine doubles victories.

Ryba also advanced to the round of 16 at the USTA/ITA Central Region Championships that was hosted by Baseline.

Minnesota will begin dual matches Jan. 21 as they host Northern Illinois and South Dakota State at Baseline.
