Gophers Open 2017 with Strong Intrasquad

The University of Minnesota women's team earned a 192.700 in its annual intrasquad meet on Monday evening at the Sports Pavilion. Ciara Gardner led the team with three event titles, while rookie Paige Williams picked up two first-place finishes.
"We are really pleased with how the intrasquad went," head coach Jenny Hansen said. "There were a lot of hit routines, which is important. There are still some details to work on, but I was really impressed with our hit ratio and the team's confidence."
Gardner recorded a 38.700 to win the all-around title. Senior Bailie Holst earned a 38.175 total through all four events.
Williams captured the vault title with a 9.975. Bailey Abernathy was a close second with a score of 9.750, and Gardner finished third with a 9.675.
Hannah Hitchcock recorded the highest score on uneven bars with a 9.625. Selena Ung followed for second place with a 9.550, while Rachel Rowland rounded out the top-three finishers with a 9.525.
Gardner took home the balance beam title with a 9.750. Williams grabbed a close second with a score of 9.725. Holst picked up third place with a score of 9.650.
Gardner and Williams each earned a share of the floor exercise title after each scored 9.775. Holst took third once again with a 9.725.
Minnesota will host Denver in the program's official season opener on Saturday, Jan. 7 at the Sports Pavilion. Competition will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available at mygophersports.com.
