STARTING FIVE
• The University of Minnesota men's basketball team returns home to begin the second third of the Big Ten conference slate, hosting rival Wisconsin in the first of two meetings with the Badgers. Minnesota is expecting a near-capacity crowd for Saturday's game.
• The Gophers sit 3-3 in Big Ten play and are looking to rebound from a pair of road losses in their most recent action. Minnesota had its first bye of the conference season during the midweek games. The Gophers averaged 78.3 points per game in their first four B1G contests, but just 48.5 points in their most recent two defeats.
• In the latest edition of the NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI), the Gophers stand in 13th place. Minnesota received one vote in this week's USA Today Coaches Poll, falling from the rankings after spending last weekend ranked 24th in both the Associated Press and coaches polls.
• Redshirt junior Reggie Lynch sits among the nation's leaders in blocked shots. The Edina, Minn. native now has 54 blocks on the season, leading both the team and the Big Ten Conference and sixth nationally with an average of 3.0 blocks per game. He is spearheading the Minnesota team blocking effort which leads the Big Ten and ranks sixth in Division I at 6.5 blocks per game.
• Minnesota is returning home to the Barn but not for long, as the Gophers will split their time between home and road games over the next three weeks. The Gophers will not have back-to-back Big Ten games at home until February 15 and 19 against Indiana and Michigan. Minnesota, along with Rutgers, is the only Big Ten team that will not have a two-game homestand until February - although the Scarlet Knights will host Wisconsin on Jan. 28 at nearby Madison Square Garden in New York City then host Iowa three days later.
SCOUTING THE BADGERS
• The 17th-ranked Badgers come to Minneapolis perched near the top of the Big Ten standings at 4-1. Wisconsin has won back-to-back home games over Ohio State and Michigan in their most recent action, after suffering their only conference loss at Purdue, 66-55, on Jan. 8 in West Lafayette.
• Wisconsin owns the Big Ten's top scoring defense, holding opponents to 60.4 points per game.
• Bronson Koenig powers the Badger offense scoring 14.5 points per game, tied for ninth among Big Ten scorers. Ethan Happ is the top rebounder (9.1), ranking second in the conference, while D'Mitrik Trice leads the Big Ten in 3-point shooting percentage, sinking 55.3 percent of his attempts from behind the arc.
