STARTING FIVE
• The University of Minnesota men's basketball team finishes up its season series with Ohio State on Wednesday, traveling to Columbus to face the Buckeyes. The Gophers are looking for their first season sweep of a Big Ten opponent in three seasons, when the Gophers defeated Penn State twice in 2014.
• The Gophers are looking to rebound from three straight losses, two of which came by two points. All told, Minnesota's four losses in conference have come by an average margin of 5.75 points, with all but the Michigan State road game (65-47) coming by two or fewer points.
• In the latest edition of the NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI), the Gophers stand in 18th place. For the first time since the end of November, the Gophers are not receiving votes in either the Associated Press media or USA Today coaches polls.
• Redshirt junior Reggie Lynch sits among the nation's leaders in blocked shots. The Edina, Minn. native now has 59 blocks on the season, leading both the team and the Big Ten Conference and fourth nationally with an average of 3.1 blocks per game. He is spearheading the Minnesota team blocking effort which leads the Big Ten and ranks fourth in Division I at 6.5 blocks per game.
• The Gophers will split their time between home and road games over the next three weeks. The Gophers will not have back-to-back Big Ten games at home until February 15 and 19 against Indiana and Michigan. Minnesota, along with Rutgers, is the only Big Ten team that will not have a two-game homestand until February - although the Scarlet Knights will host Wisconsin on Jan. 28 at nearby Madison Square Garden in New York City then host Iowa three days later in Piscataway.
SCOUTING THE BUCKEYES
• Ohio State is coming off a narrow two-point loss to Northwestern at home Sunday, following back-to-back wins over Michigan State and Nebraska, their first two victories in conference.
• Jae'Sean Tate continues to lead the Buckeye offense, scoring 14.1 points per game and leading a quintet of OSU players to average double digits. Tate ranks 11th in scoring among Big Ten players (as of Jan. 24).
• Trevor Thompson is the conference's second-leading rebounder at 9.3 boards per game, pacing a Buckeyes rebounding unit that holds a +3.0 advantage off the glass.
