Eleven Gophers Earn NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Minnesota softball saw 11 of its current and former student-athletes receive 2016-17 NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes, as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Tuesday.

Carlie Brandt, Elizabeth Cowger, Sydney Dwyer, Tori Finucane, Maddie Houlihan, Katelyn Kemmetmueller, Kaylen Krueger, Kendyl Lindaman, Sam Macken, Danielle Parlich and Erika Rozell were all recognized for their efforts in the classroom.

Minnesota, along with Nebraska had the most honorees among all Big Ten schools. Minnesota was also tied for third most student-athletes honored among Power Five schools.

NCAA Division I led the way with 1,843 student-athletes earning a 3.5 grade-point average or higher, while 1,825 in Division III garnered recognition followed by 1,268 Division II student-athletes. High School weighted and High School unweighted posted 751 and 609 honorees apiece. NAIA amassed 559 recipients and Junior College totaled 496.
