Gopher Duo Receives Weekly B1G Accolades

Alexis Hart and Samantha Seliger-Swenson received weekly Big Ten Conference awards, announced today by the conference office. Hart garnered Player of the Week accolades, while Seliger-Swenson was named Setter of the Week. It's the first award for Hart this season and fourth award for Seliger-Swenson.
Hart, a sophomore outside hitter from Kansas City, Mo., provided a team-best 27 kills in a pair of sweeps over No. 16 Purdue and Iowa last week. As a three-rotation outside, Hart averaged 4.50 kills per set and hit .367 over the course of the two matches. In the 3-0 win over Purdue last Wednesday, Hart had 11 kills in 26 attempts to hit .308. She also added two aces in the win. Against Iowa on Sunday, she posted a match-best 16 kills, hit .412, added four blocks and five digs. On the season, Hart has 233 kills and averages 3.58 per set. The award marks the first time Hart has garnered the league's Player of the Week award.
Seliger-Swenson, a junior setter, averaged 12.50 kills per set and helped the Gophers to a .302 hitting clip in the pair of Big Ten matches. She also led the team in digs when she posted 25 digs and added a team-best four aces. Last Wednesday against No. 16 Purdue, Seliger-Swenson helped the team to a hit .298 when she had 36 assists as Minnesota had 45 kills. She also tallied two aces and finished the double-double with team-best 15 digs. On Sunday against the Hawkeyes, she had 39 assists, added her second double-double of the week with 10 digs and two aces. During one of her serve rotations, Minnesota went on a 9-0 run to secure a 25-18 set win. On the season, she averages a Big Ten best 12.22 assists per set and ranks in the top 10 with 0.32 aces per set.
The Gophers are set to travel to Ohio State on October 18 to face the Buckeyes before returning to Maturi Pavilion on October 21 to face Wisconsin at 7:30 p.m. Both matches will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
