Baldwin Earns WCHA Weekly Honors

MINNEAPOLIS - Senior defense Sydney Baldwin has been named this week's WCHA Offensive Player of the Week, Powered by GoodWood Hockey, after leading all WCHA players with four points against Bemidji State last week.

Baldwin becomes the rare blue-liner to earn offensive accolades after leading No. 7 Minnesota to a road sweep at Bemidji State with 3-1 and 4-3 (OT) wins. Baldwin recorded one goal, an overtime game-winner, and added three assists in the series; she also had eight shots on goal and eight blocked shots against the Beavers.

The Minnetonka, Minn., native has earned her first career WCHA weekly award after factoring in both game-winning goals against BSU. She assisted the Gophers' first two goals, including the game-winner, in game one before scoring 1:04 into overtime to give the Gophers a 4-3 OT victory in game two along with assisting the team's first goal.

With back-to-back multi-point games, Baldwin extended her current point streak to three games. Baldwin led the WCHA with three assists, and her four points led all NCAA defensemen.

This season, Baldwin leads Minnesota with nine points, eight assists, and 20 blocked shots. She is tied for ninth in the nation with 1.50 points per game, ranks fifth in the NCAA with 1.33 assists per game, and is second among NCAA defensemen with 1.50 points per game. Her nine points are tops among all NCAA defensemen, and her eight assists are tied for the lead among all players.

Along with her WCHA weekly honors, Baldwin was named one of NCAA.com's Three Stars of the week, joining goaltender Kassidy Sauve (Ohio State) and goaltender Liz Auby (Colgate).
