Molly Lohman has been a force to be reckoned with at the net. Leading the team in total blocks since her sophomore season, she even sits in second place for total blocks in a single season (2016) in the Minnesota volleyball history books. An integral part of the team, Lohman has had a hand in making Minnesota volleyball what it is today. As a co-captain, the Mankato, Minn., native hopes to leave the younger student-athletes with the tools they need to carry on the team culture for seasons to come.

Gophersports.com: What are some individual goals you have set for yourself his season?
Molly Lohman: Going into practice with the intent to get better. I was getting used to the atmosphere my first two years and it took me a bit to realize how much you can learn and get better in one day or in one practice. I am also exploring my role of being a leader, especially since I am a senior. We graduated a lot in 2016 and now have a lot of young players, so I want to help show them the way.

GS: What does it mean to you to be named a co-captain?
ML: It is cool to be recognized as a leader. Each day, I look to help the team get better and to help the younger players so they can carry on the culture we have created after I leave.

GS: What is your leadership style like?
ML: I am more of a quiet leader. I try to lead by example, and I lead by doing and not by saying. I will also try and fill in where needed. If the team needs someone to be loud, then I will do my best to be loud.

GS: How would you describe the team culture this season?
ML: We are very united and we are in it with every point of the game. We all look to get better at practice and compete with each other to help everyone get better. The team also works hard on and off the court.

GS: What is the atmosphere like on the court when you get to play at home?
ML: It's hard to find words to describe the amazing atmosphere at Maturi Pavilion. Obviously it is really nice to get to play on the court we get to practice on every day, but the support we get from our fans is unreal. In my years playing here, we seem to get more and more support each year. The fans are such a big part of the atmosphere that has been created at the Pav, and I can't thank them enough for all the love and support I have gotten in my years here. There truly is no place I would rather play than here at the Pavilion.
