After clinching a home Big Ten Tournament game for the second straight season on Wednesday, the University of Minnesota soccer team was recognized in the post-season awards, announced today by the Big Ten league office. Sydney Squires was named All-Big Ten First Team, both Molly Fiedler and Tori Burnett were selected to the All-Big Ten Second Team, and junior forward April Bockin was tabbed as a Third Team selection.

In her first season as a primary starter, Sydney Squires did more than impress. She erupted for 14 goals this season, which tied for the Big Ten lead, and did it with 25 less shots than her co-leader. The 14 goals for the senior is the most by a Gopher player since 2011 and finished with 31 points, the second most in the Big Ten.

A fellow senior, Tori Burnett earned her place on the Big Ten's Second Team with her consistent play this season. She anchored a defense that allowed just 48 shots on goal this season, the fewest in the Big Ten and the fewest in program-history. Burnett also registered two assists this season, which matched her career-high.

For the first time in her career, Molly Fiedler joined the All-Big Ten accolades. The Eagan, Minn. native was second in the Big Ten in assists this season with eight, and was second during Big Ten play, just behind her teammate, Bockin. Fiedler has also started in 63-straight games for the Gophers, the longest active streak on the team.

Bockin rounds out the Gophers on the top three teams of the Big Ten. Bockin achieved her Third Team status by leading not only the Big Ten in assists with 12, but the entire NCAA. Bockin also led the Big Ten in assists during Big Ten play. Bockin also scored four goals in Big Ten play, which ties her for fifth during that span.

Each season each team nominates a player on their team they believe represents their best sportsmanship, this season senior Kellie McGahn was chosen from the Gophers roster. McGahn scored one goal this season, and added three assists while starting eight games and playing in all 18.

With the postseason here, make sure you follow the Gophers on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram so you do not miss any Minnesota soccer action.
