The Minnesota men's basketball team is earning recognition from both the media and coaches in their preseason rankings. Both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Polls have the Gophers 15th in their first rankings of the 2017-18 season.

This is the 12th time the Gophers have made an appearance in the preseason AP rankings. Minnesota earned 642 points, the second-highest ranked Big Ten squad behind Michigan State (No. 2). Two additional Big Ten teams are in the top-25 in No. 19 Northwestern and No. 20 Purdue.

Minnesota has not been ranked in the Associated Press preseason poll since 2009-2010, when it was 25th with 172 points. It is the Gophers highest ranking since 1993-1994, when they were 10th entering the season. The Gophers received votes in each of the preseason polls from 2011-13 and 2015.

The Gophers were ranked 15th as well in the USA Today Coaches Poll, earning 303 points in the poll which came out two weeks earlier.

Minnesota begins its 2017-18 season with an exhibition against Concordia-St. Paul on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. The Gophers are also hosting Green Bay on Sunday at noon in Maturi Pavilion, an exhibition where all proceeds from the $10 admission will go to hurricane relief in Puerto Rico (Buy Tickets Here).
