Feb. 25, 2017 The University of Minnesota women's golf team resumes action next week, returning to Florida to participate in the Hurricane Invitational. The Golden Gophers were in the Sunshine State two weeks ago, placing sixth in the Florida State Match Up.
"I thought we did a lot of good things," head coach Michele Redman said of the team's performance in the previous tournament. "It was fun for me as a coach because I knew that we had made some progress, and I'd seen a lot of improvement in many areas, not just golfing ability but from a team aspect. Obviously we would have liked to have played that last round better but we really haven't been in that position for a long time. So it was good for the girls to experience that, probably experience the nerves a little bit, and I think the good thing is we'll be able to carry that over. The fact that they know they can shoot those kinds of numbers and play against some of the best teams is gonna be good for them and help them grow and become better and better."
The Gophers will begin the three-day, 54 hole tournament on Monday, playing at the 6,150-yard par 71 Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables, Fla.
Minnesota will be competing against Augusta State, Barry University, East Carolina, Florida International, Iowa State, Louisville, Mercer, Miami, Michigan, Middle Tennessee, Northwestern, Penn State, South Dakota State, South Florida and Virginia Tech.
"I'm looking forward to watching all of them play," Redman said. "They've all been working, we gave them a little bit of rest this last weekend, and they're gonna be ready to go. We're going to have two good days of practice before the tournament. They're all playing good golf right now. We're on the edge of being pretty good right now. I'm looking forward to watching them all play together."
