Defenseman Wolfe Values Offensive Game

MINNEAPOLIS - Megan Wolfe has made a big impact on her team during her senior year. Primarily a defenseman, Wolfe has taken advantage of the opportunity to play a more offensive game this season.
The Gophers have faced a lot of adversity this season, dealing with multiple injuries. Rather than letting that negatively impact her play, Wolfe has taken it as a chance to step up offensively and into a leadership role.
"There has been a lot of adversity our team has had to go through, but everyone has stepped up this year," Wolfe said. "Everyone as a team has come together and focused on the bigger picture of winning games."
"It's tough, keeping a positive mindset. Just focus on what each line and each D-pair can do best to win a game."
This season, Wolfe has had a career-high six goals and notes that she has consciously shot the puck more, registering a total of 68 shots.
"I've just been shooting a lot more this year," Wolfe said. "It's something fun when you jump into a play and get to be a part of a goal."
In addition to shooting the puck more, Wolfe had the opportunity to step up to forward a handful of times this season, the position at which she was originally recruited.
Wolfe says that she has grown a lot over the past four years and has gained skill both at forward and on the blue line.
"I have become more confident in myself and my abilities at defense as I have grown the past four years as a player," Wolfe said.
She has also become a better leader, stating that she aims to have a positive attitude every day and encourage younger players. Wolfe notes that former Gopher Baylee Gillanders did the same for her when she was a freshman.
Wolfe has found a lot of success on the ice, including being part of two national championship teams. Although that is the case, she says that off-ice memories may be the most important to her.
"Being with the team and hanging out at our house with the teammates, it's just the little things like that," Wolfe said.
With her Gopher career winding down, she aims to continue her success on and off the ice, and keep a positive mindset.
"My goals are to stay positive, be a good teammate, and win each period and hopefully win games. Hopefully we make it to the national championship again."
